Lyžování Tignes

Tignes, located in the French Alps appeals to both a British and French audiences simply because of its good snow spread over a large and varied terrain. Whilst it is not as glamorous or moden as its link lifted neighbour, Val d'Isere, which together make up the vast Espace Killy, some people prefer it for its higher altitude and more convenient location together with its close proximity to the Grande Motte Glacier.

One of the main attractions which makes Tignes ski holidays so popular is that all year round skiing is possible with the winter season starting as early as September and extending through into May. Tignes has 300 km of pistes suitable for all abilities of skier. There is a lot here to challenge advanced skiers and boarders with some great off piste opportunities, available with a guide. The 1992 Olympic Downhill run, "The Face" certainly got the adrenalin flowing. Beginners and intermediates are also well catered for with plenty of blue and red runs dotted around. The entire Espace Killy area comprises 23 green runs, 67 blue runs, 40 red runs and 29 black runs with an additional 6 slalom runs, 1 mogul field, 2 snowparks and 1 gliss park for novice boarders.

About the village

Tignes dates back to the 1960's and lacks a little in Alpine charm but it more than makes up for this with its friendly welcome and wide range of bars, cafes and restaurants serving a choice of local homemade dishes as well as international cuisine. The night life is a little limited commpared to Val d'Isere but Le Bec Rouge on Rue de la Poste promises a lively evening. La Grotte de Yeti is a rustic apres-ski bar that attacts the over 18's and the Embuscade Cafe also pulls in older crowds. There is plenty of accommodation in Tignes and if you're looking for a luxurious hotel in Tignes, then L'Ecrin du Val Claret is a good choice for unwinding and pampering after a long day on the slopes. For a spot of retail therapy, head off to Tignes 1850 for a range of upmarket boutiques, trendy surf shops and small specialist shops offering local delicacies and gifts.
