Lago di Garda Sud
The largest Italian lake which ,in biggest part, was carved and filled by the ice age glaciers, it is up to 52km long and 16.7 km wide. The Lake lies 65m above sea level and covers 369.98 square kilometers in total, the deepest parts of the lake lie at a depth of up to 346 meters. The lake also has an abundance of small islands, five of them are better known - the largest one is Isola del Garda, to the south of there lies Isola San Biagio also known as Isola dei Conigli (island of the hares) both are located just off the coast of town San Felice dal Benaco on the west side of the lake. The three other major islands, Isola dall'Olivo, Isola di Sogno and Isola di Trimelone are located on the northeast lakeside. The main tributary of the lake is the river Sarca, which runs from the Dolomites on the north part of the lake ,while the only outlet of the lake is the river Mincio.

What can Lake Garda and its surroundings offer? It is a good place to spend an active holiday, leisurely lying on the beach or sipping coffee in a laketown cafe. In addition to excellent opportunities for biking, surfing, hiking and climbing, visitors may also discover the secrets of Italian cuisine. The area is famous for its wine Bardolino and olive cultivation and olive oil production. All lovers of good food and wine can visit the Garda wine route (Strada del vino e dei sapori del Garda). The youngest of you will be excited visiting one of the largest and most popular amusement parks in Italy, Gardaland Park or any of several other entertainment, water or zoological parks such as: Movie land, Jungle Adventure Park, Water land, Aqua park Altomincio, CanevaWorld Aqua Paradise, Riovalli Aqua splash, to name only a few.
The lake surroundings are full of bike paths which makes it is a cycling lover’s paradise. If cycling is not your favourite, you can go for a hike on one of many hiking trails near the lake and to enjoy the beautiful nature surrounding the Lake. Lovers of windsurfing and kite surfing will, of course, remain in the vicinity of the lake especially in the northern area, near the Riva del Garda town, since the nearby Alpine valleys, often blown by the wind, provide good conditions for windsurfing and kite surfing.
If you would like to experience the genuine pulse of Italy, you can do so by drinking coffee on one of the many mideval town squares or visit the market place in Verona, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. In addition to markets and coffee Verona also offers you a magnificent Roman arena and. of course. let’s not forget Julia’s house with her famous balcony straight from world famous Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. We also recommend visiting the town of Sirmione known for its old forts and thermal springs.
Lake Garda is definitely a wonderful place for both the active and the non active visitors with plenty of gourmet, sporting and cultural attractions.
